LA MODE RETROUVÉE — Palais Galliera
November 7, 2015 – March 20, 2016
Aurore de La Morinerie’s drawings were showcased in La Mode retrouvée, an exhibition at the Palais Galliera that presented the exceptional wardrobe of Countess Greffulhe. Displayed alongside the Countess’s garments, her illustrations offered a contemporary artistic interpretation of designs by Worth, Fortuny, Babani, and Lanvin, capturing the elegance and grandeur of these iconic pieces.
The exhibition featured approximately fifty ensembles, including coats, day and evening dresses, and accessories, accompanied by portraits, photographs, and films. This collection provided insight into the life and style of Countess Greffulhe, a prominent figure in Parisian society whose beauty and elegance inspired Marcel Proust's character, the Duchess of Guermantes, in À la recherche du temps perdu.
Curated by Olivier Saillard, director of the Palais Galliera, along with the museum's conservation and documentation team, the exhibition highlighted the Countess's influence on fashion and culture from the late Second Empire through the Roaring Twenties. Aurore de La Morinerie’s contributions added a modern perspective to this historical narrative, bridging past and present through her artistic interpretations.
